________________________________________________________________ PassCrypt, Version 2.1 Copyright (c) 2003-2004 Permutations Software, Inc. Written by Mark Sweeney Release date: May 11, 2004 http://www.permutations.com ________________________________________________________________ PLATFORMS: Windows 98/Me/2000/XP SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher for automatic form capture and fill-in. Other features work with any browser. DESCRIPTION: PassCrypt combines a secure, feature-rich database with automatic form capture and fill-in. The data you type into a Web form can be saved automatically when you submit the form. Then when you return to the site, PassCrypt can fill in the form for you automatically. Unlike other products, PassCrypt stores this data in a searchable database organized by folder, rather than a simple list. Each folder displays only the fields relevant to that folder. By default, PassCrypt sets up folders for credit cards, Web site passwords, software registration codes, and Web email accounts, but you can set up folders for any purpose. When you capture form data, you tell PassCrypt which folder to use, and PassCrypt matches the form data with available PassCrypt fields as best it can. Form data that isn't assigned to PassCrypt fields is still usable so you don't have to do anything further. But if you want to make the form data visible in PassCrypt's Editor, you can use the Edit Form dialog to manually assign form data to PassCrypt fields. PassCrypt protects your data with a military strength (448-bit) Blowfish cipher. The program can lock the database when the screensaver is invoked, and is also easily locked on demand with a hotkey or from the tray icon. Color coding shows you when a password has expired, and the flexible report writer can print out all passwords or just expired passwords. A built-in secure password generator can be used to create new passwords when you need them. PassCrypt's automatic form capture and fill in features require the use of an IE-based browser, but users of other browsers can still use PassCrypt's quick paste facility to fill in forms quickly. Former users of RoboForm can painlessly move their data over to PassCrypt 2 with the Import RoboForm facility. REVISION HISTORY: Changes in Version 2.1: - NEW: PassCrypt appears on the Internet Explorer context menu. - FIXED: Various problems in program operation have been corrected. Changes in Version 2.0: - NEW: PassCrypt now has the ability to automatically save data submitted in a Web form, and then fill in the form automatically when you return to the site. Form data can be mapped to PassCrypt database fields using the new Edit Form Data dialog. The automatic form capture and fill-in features require the use of an IE-based browser. Users of other browsers can use PassCrypt's quick paste facility to fill in forms quickly. - NEW: RoboForm data can now be imported into PassCrypt. - NEW: The Notes field now has word wrap and rich text capabilities, accessed through the context menu. - NEW: The Description and URL fields no longer have size limitations. They were previously limited to 32 characters and 256 characters, respectively. - NEW: There is now an option to lock the database when the screensaver is activated. - NEW: There is now an option to lock the database with a hotkey. - NEW: When the PassCrypt database is locked, its tray icon is red and displays a locked padlock. - NEW: When text in the grid is truncated, a tooltip is displayed with the fill text. - NEW: An optional click sound indicates when a grid element has been selected for editing. - NEW: Folder names are now encrypted within the database file. - NEW: The Generate Password dialog now displays the password's bit strength. Changes in Version 1.3b: - FIXED: When pasting from PassCrypt, a password such as BUG^08876 came out as "BUG8876" with the carat and following zero missing. Changes in Version 1.3a: - This update changes the name of one of the PassCrypt program files. By coincidence, a spyware program called PrizeSweeper used a DLL of the same name, so some spyware scanners were incorrectly flagging PassCrypt as spyware. The DLL that was previously named PassKey.dll is now named PassCryptKey.dll. This DLL's only function is to paste keystrokes into applications you select on your desktop. Permutations Software programs never have and never will contain spyware of any kind. You don't need to uninstall the previous version before installing this update. Just close any active sessions of PassCrypt and run the setup program. As long as you choose the same installation folder, the old PassKey.dll file will be removed automatically. Changes in Version 1.3: - FIXED: The URL and email push buttons in the Editor window are now properly enabled or disabled, depending on whether the fields contain data. Changes in Version 1.2: - NEW: A five-level Undo feature lets you quickly correct errors. To Undo a change, just right click on the folder or item. The Undo menu text describes exactly what will happen so there are no surprises. - NEW: An auto-complete feature speeds up data entry while protecting your privacy. Passwords are not included in the auto-complete if you have selected the "Mask passwords" option. - NEW: The ability to drag-and-drop items between folders makes it easier to reorganize your data. - NEW: The SHIFT and CTRL keys can be used to select multiple folders or records, just like in Explorer. Selected items can be deleted or moved to a new folder. - NEW: If you drag records to new folders with the right mouse button, you'll get a popup menu with options for Copy and Move. The Copy option lets you use information from one item as a template for another. - NEW: An optional Tip-of-the-Day message helps you to use PassCrypt more effectively. You can also access the tips from the Help menu. - FIXED: On certain systems, the horizontal slider bar was incorrectly displayed directly under the main menu, and the grid in the Editor was not visible. - FIXED: Dates that had expired were not displayed using a red foreground color within the grid. Also, the option to print only expired records was not working properly. Changes in Version 1.1: - NEW: The system tray dialog has a right click menu option for displaying the item's Notes text. - NEW: You can quickly lock your database using the new 'Lock database' option in the system tray context menu. - NEW: The File menu displays the last five files that were opened. - NEW: You can rename the categories assigned to folders. - NEW: You can rename column headings and select an icon for each column. - NEW: You can select a default font size for reports. - NEW: You can select whether to use the PassCrypt skin or the standard Windows appearance. - NEW: You can drag-and-drop items from the Editor window grid into different folders, making data import much easier. - IMPROVED: Data entry is easier and faster now that arrow keys automatically close the edit field and move you to the next row. Previously, you had to close the edit field using either the Tab or Enter key. - FIXED: PassCrypt interfered with the operation of some clipboard caching utilities. - FIXED: When editing data, if your CAPS LOCK key was on, the first key entered would be converted to lower case and the remaining keystrokes in upper case. - FIXED: After making changes in the Master Password dialog, PassCrypt did not always prompt you to save your changes.
